Final Draft Oculto

For this project I wrote a story called Oculto which means hidden in Spanish. It’s about a girl who has a special power and has to deal with controlling it and using to her advantage in the harsh world. Enjoy 🙂

Alida woke up with a sudden jolt; she breathed heavily with widened eyes and raised eyebrows. She look around the room to check if she was safe, remembering how her mom and dad had witnessed her so called “special power” twelve years ago, they were shaken to the bone, she frowned at the memory of her parents leaving her here at the lab, made especially for supernatural occurrences like this. She would always explain her condition by drawing herself with a cord attached to her and at the other end would be a blur of scribbles. She had this entity attached to her ever since she was little. It is invisible to her and everyone else but she knew it was there, she heard and felt it. She lost hope of the one day they might be separated, so she gave it a name, Rem.

Her green glossy globes found their way to the security camera set up in the corner of her room. Alida sighed, knowing Genus would be asleep on the other side of the wall since he wasn’t much of a morning person. He was one of the two scientists that took care of her regularly; they were more like father figures to her ever since her parents left her here. She motioned out of her bed and towards the door to the training room that would help her cope with Rem always being there. She entered the room; the room was cold and plain, the walls were blank and painted grey, there was also a table in the center of the room. She shivered and rubbed her arms; she heard a loud bang behind her. Luke busted through the door with a worried look on his face. “Luke are you ok?” Alida questioned him with concern in her voice. Luke was one of the two scientists that took care of her, he had never barged in like this before.

“Alida hurry get in my car!”

“Ok ok I’m coming.” Alida exclaimed and frowned. They entered the car. “What’s going on?”

“I’ll tell you when we get there.” Luke demanded. Alida glared at him from the corner of her eye, she rolled down the window where stars shined brightly in the pitch black sky. She felt the wind hit her face like someone running past her at the speed of light. They pulled up to a giant building, Alida’s eyes widened. The building breathed orange flames and black smoke, ambulances and fireman surrounded the building to help workers that were injured. “Alida something has happened here at the CDC. The scientists have been trying to open up a rift to the other side where entities like Rem are, these are bad entities that can mess with peoples mind. They finally did it, they opened a rift to the other side where they are entering our world now, and the human race caused this.” Luke admitted.

“They did? Why would they even think to open it with knowing the damage it would do? They should’ve expected this to happen.” She vented with frustration.

“Only you can close it and survive since you have Rem, he can protect you. You don’t have to do it if you don’t want to, we can go back to the lab and let them take care of it.” Luke said trying to persuade Alida.

“No its fine, I’ll do it.” Alida opened the car door and exited the vehicle. As she walked towards the building she saw fireman whispering while looking at her with concern. She came to the entrance of the building.

“Sorry mom you’re not allowed here, this area is restricted.” A guard ordered at her.

“No she’s allowed in.” The second guard announced. They stepped aside and let Alida through. She opened the two wide doors oak doors, lights flickered and swung side to side, trash was scattered on the floor with vending machines knocked over, the walls were made of metal with scratches engraved in it. She was terrified of what would come next.

Storyboard Work

For this blog post, I made a storyboard for a script I am writing at the moment. This shows the main idea of one of the most important scenes in the story. This story is a horror story that is very descriptive and is aimed to really put the character in the story and to scare them, this is hard to do with books so I hope I can really think of how to effect the readers emotions, enjoy!

Writing Promps w/ Vines

This Post is about watching these vines and having to write about them. In our class we had to think of what the story was for some of things and even make a response to one. We embedded the vines above the story that it goes along with, hope you enjoy!

Prompt one: He gave up, nothing could keep them away. These constant dreams of falling constantly became too real, now he would feel like he fell into a black abyss out in the open. He started searching for a place to go adventure off to, so that maybe he could swipe away these awful visions. He walked towards a road that seemed to have no end. Creamy thick fog clouded his vision of where his final destination would be. He began walking through the fog even more, deeper into nothingness. Maybe on the other side, something beautiful would be there. If he had a new dream, maybe the scary falling would dissipate into the background of his life. For prompt two I misread “What are some free things you are thankful for?” For the following prompt below, but enjoy it anyway🙂

Prompt two: Some free things that I would ask for are plane ticket to Japan so that me and a few friends could go since we love everything from there. Another thing I would like is a lot of clothes so that it would be hard to choose what to wear (I know first world problems right?). I would also ask for a plane ticket to Portland, Oregon because a bunch of my friends live there from when I first moved here. Another free item I would want is any house of me and my mom and dad’s choice since we wouldn’t have any limit to what house we wanted.Prompt three: She looked up at the rainbow lights in the sky. What is this place? Who is she? The girl decided to investigate everything in her surroundings. She stumbled and stepped on her other foot every few steps. She heard breathing by her ear and shivers ran down her spine. She frowned and look back, a galloping brown animal was staring right into her brown glossy globes. This is the first time she had ever been alive, so why was she hear alone and why was she six years old? She saw big spiky and bulging white covered hills. She started towards the mountains, she didn’t know what anything here was or who herself was. Her arms shook and her heart ached, she didn’t know what this feeling was but she didn’t like it. Her feet felt sore and squished into the white fluff every step she took. She wanted to know where this path led to. A light glowed in the distance, she ran towards it, not knowing anything except for her own existence.

Short Story Diagrams

This post is a project we are working on in class for making short stories. This post features the diagrams that I made for the short story I am going to write about. It is simple but it shows the steps that we went through to make these short stories when they are done in the feature.

Capture

This is a plot diagram that tells who the characters are for the short stories we have to write and what happens in the story.

Coraline Two Scene Story

This post  is a scene that I wrote from a story. This is called    “Coraline 2″, it is the sequel to “Coraline” the movie and book, you should go check out the first movie and book (not made by me). This story is written by me so I hope you enjoy reading!

“No my bracelet!” Caroline reached in the muddy hole. Something was grabbing her; it was like sandpaper scrapping against her hand with force. Tears swelled up daring to retreat from her eyes. She felt herself slip through the mud, it wasn’t solid ground. Caroline was a small skinny girl with raven black hair, she looked clumsy but she could handle herself. She saw not just darkness around her but she saw stars and drawings on paper. The black abyss looked like a child tunnel toy, filled with colors but this one was colorless. It felt like she was falling down the rabbit hole, it never stopped to her. She felt the wind pressing against her face like a forceful hug. Tears streamed from her brown globes like an upside-down waterfall. She saw ground finally. A sound echoed through the tunnel as she landed, a cartoon like sound of something springy. She looked down, a trampoline “What is this? Hello?! Get me out of here!” No one answered; she turned her head and started toward a curtain of leaves colored like a butterfly pattern. Her hand jerked back before entering the mysterious room but before she could make up her mind, she slipped backwards and fell, along with something dragging her through the colored leaves and bouncy floor. The sliding stopped and she jumped up, her eyes widened and her mouth hung open, her heart rate increased and you could hear her breathing from a mile away. She walked around the room; all of the items were familiar to her. The stove, the table, and all of the pots and pans, but one thing was scarily familiar, her mom.

“Why hello welcome back dear.”

Caroline backed up, her hands were shaking and she felt as if she could faint. “It’s you again! How is this possible? What do you want?” Caroline asked as her hands shook uncontrollably. “Oh why don’t you stop asking questions and sit down so we can catch up” she sounded like she knew everything about Caroline. Caroline had enough already, she couldn’t stand her ever since the incident with her real parents a year ago. That year she had found a secret door in their new house they bought, things weren’t going well. Her parents quarreled and turned their backs to Caroline. Once she found the door, she went through it and discovered this universe. It was good at first but then things turned rotten and scarce. This mom from the strange world kidnapped Caroline’s parents and held them hostage, Caroline had gotten them back but they didn’t remember anything, then her life turned good until now.  She had worked so hard to save her parents and to defeat her so called “Mom”, too hard to give up now. The mom creature was tall and slender, her eyes drooped and her skin was almost glowing green with rotten texture, she had her old dotted dress and apron on from when Caroline first visited her. “Fine I’ll do what you want to do.”

“Thank you dear please have a seat so we can talk things through.” Caroline sat down without question she looked around the room more observantly this time, the walls leaked water, wall paper peeled off the wall and curled at the tips, the table was set but with horrible disgusting like food, before everything went wrong a year ago, the food was delicious and beautiful. The mom sat on the opposite side of the brown oak dining table. What was she going to do? She noticed the table was set and silverware was placed next to the white china plates, last time she was here she noticed that it was the opposite of the real world, she knew her real mom thought it was cute to play with food and then tell her to eat it. Her real mom also didn’t care much for messes around the house since a maid they hired helped clean. Caroline placed food on her plate and looked at her creature of a mom. She twisted her fork in a circle motion and placed her head on her hand. She sighed and looks at the mom who looked a little annoyed and agitated. It was working, she had figured it out. Caroline peered outside the window, it’s raining.

She stood up and ran outside the door, the door squeaked open in an aggressive way and made a booming sound of books dropping. Her feet squished in the brown dirt that turned into liquid on her rain boots. She darted back in leaving dust behind her. She stomped around marking the floor so it wouldn’t forget Caroline Evans. The mom stormed out “What are you doing?!” Caroline ran passed her, the mom caught her shirt collar and yanked her back thread tore like the hope of Caroline getting home. This wasn’t the end, Caroline never gave up. She scratched the arm of the mom creature and ran, ran through the butterfly leaves and ran through the jelly forest. She looked up at the light at the end of the tunnel, she would make it.

Some feedback I got was how I did good detailing the story and really painted a picture for the story. They also could tell that this story was about Coraline (the original story) without the title. They said it was confusing at some parts so I cleaned that up and made this final draft. I hope you enjoyed it too!

Scripting and Skyping with 1st Grade Talent

My post is going to be explaining the process of making a script with a group for a story involving the talent of 1st Graders and includes me describing what it was like skyping with them for this project. I also have a previous post that explains also the process we went through in this post.

Our Script: Creating a script with a group isn’t easy, first of all we needed to work together and show teamwork to get the script done in time to skype with the 1st graders.

Something else we had to do to create a script was to skype with the 1st graders and have them create the dialogue, even if the words weren’t real words sometimes, we would use them anyway to add humor for the people who are going to film with this script.

After doing that we would make sure we got all dialogue for every part of the story needed and to also pick the sentence they said that fitted the story most since we had more than one piece of dialogue for each scene.

Making Characters: For the script we needed to progress the description of the characters to know how they would respond to each other.

We also needed to develop the characters like draw them as a sketch, create characteristics and background of their past, and also come up with problems the characters face daily.

Skyping Them: Skyping with them was not an easy process. We had to talk to them so they would understand the basic concept and know how the characters act, talk, and their personalities.

As the students came up with dialogue, some of their grammar as we expected wasn’t correct but we wanted to keep the incorrect and childish grammar to have more humor to the project.

We also had to speak up and talk clearly for them to understand what we were saying through the mic, we also had to adjust lighting and the camera so they could see us.

Brainstorming Video Project Ideas

The Project: The project that the iLynx class wanted to do was to take adult actors and and replace their voices with kid’s voices and come up with story ideas for the kids to create. The kids would come up with the dialogue and we would come up with the idea of the story.

How I Made Ideas: I brainstorm and put together different characters and themes to the scene on paper. I would come up with a character or setting and then other characters and piece together which ones made more sense and were more humorous together.

Other members of my table group came up with their ideas. After we had a few ideas we put our ideas together and picked the three best and most humorous choices.

The Stories We Chose: We chose three stories, one from each person. The first one we chose was a story with a main character that is a science teacher, the other character was a student. The scene is placed in a classroom where the two characters are attempting to figure out how the world was created.

The second story we chose had a main character that was Cashier, the second character is an old man that is having trouble trying to count money and the Cashier is trying to be patient.

The last one we chose was a story with a main character that was a kid with an adult voice, the second character was an adult with a kid’s voice and the kid was trying to teach the adult how to use a computer. Those were our three choices and the one that was chosen was the scene with the Cashier and the old man.

Partner Racket Aim

This is my first post in my Creative Writing class, I was given an assignment to create a new sport with a few random items. This is the sport I have created, enjoy!

What you need: The sport I invented is called Partner Racket Aim.  In this game you have two tennis rackets, on in each hand, You wrap duct tape around the tennis rackets so that the net is a flat surface. Then you stack a few cups on each racket while your partner stands a few feet away and attempts to throw a wiffle ball into the cup in a time span of twenty minutes.

Rules: There are up to fifteen teams of two in one game, there are three rounds, in each round you have twenty minutes to get one hundred wiffle balls in the cups, if you get one hundred you win the game. Partner Racket Aim is played on a  rectangle shaped court inside with string stretched across the room in patterns like security trip wire systems.

Forbidden Actions: throwing the wiffle ball at someone else, entering a close distance of your partner so it would be easier to get the wiffle ball in the cups, hitting someone with the tennis racket, you cannot step anywhere or step closer to your partner, and not including duct tape on the tennis rackets you are using.

Things that are allowed: stretch out the rackets in front of you so they are closer to your partner. Good luck and have fun.
